Why AI-Generated Codebases Hit a Wall at 80% Completion (And How to Harden Them)

We are living through a renaissance in developer velocity. Non-technical founders and solo operators are using Cursor, Claude 3.5 Sonnet, and v0 to build functional MVPs in a single weekend. It feels like magic—until it doesn't.

The "Vibe-Coding" Ceiling

Around the 80% completion mark, something predictable happens: every time you prompt the AI to fix a bug or add a new workflow, three other features silently break. Why?

  • Context Window Blindness: The LLM only sees the files you feed it or retrieve via RAG. It lacks a holistic mental model of your application state lifecycle.
  • State Duplication: The AI writes duplicate React state hooks instead of establishing a centralized server state or global cache.
  • Database Hallucinations: The AI invents disconnected foreign keys, unindexed queries, and missing database Row-Level Security (RLS) policies.

The Rescue Protocol

Stabilizing an AI prototype does not require starting from scratch. In my AI Codebase Rescue sprints, we execute a structured 4-step triage:

  1. Forensic Security Sweep: Lock down environment variables, database RLS policies, and API route authentication boundaries.
  2. State Normalization: Decouple noisy client components from deterministic server state using strict TypeScript interfaces.
  3. Database Indexing: Inspect query plans, eliminate N+1 queries, and install connection pooling.
  4. Regression Test Boundaries: Write automated end-to-end tests for core revenue paths so future AI edits cannot silently break payments or user auth.

Absolute IP Ownership

You own the system.
The code. The infra. The data.

Software should not become valuable enough to matter and then be impossible for the client to own or operate.

Everything I build is 100% client-owned intellectual property from day one. You own the code, the accounts, the infrastructure, and the data. No vendor lock-in.

What belongs to you in full:

  • 01Source code & Complete Git Repositories
  • 02Apple, Google & Enterprise Developer Accounts
  • 03Cloud Infrastructure, VPCs & Production Databases
  • 04Figma Design Files, Assets & Documentation
  • 05CI/CD Deployment Pipelines & Signing Keys
