This case study reflects our scope delivering the core catalogue search re-architecture, compatibility engine, and checkout stabilization. Subsequent retail store integrations were managed by the client's internal team.
One of the nation's leading PC hardware and consumer electronics retailers faced severe database lock contention and checkout slowdowns during festival sales and product drops. With a catalogue of over 500,000 SKUs and complex component compatibility dependencies (CPU sockets, chipset pairings, power thresholds), customer searches forced intensive relational table joins that saturated database CPU and caused cart drop-offs.
We re-architected the e-commerce infrastructure with an inverted search index, pre-computed faceted filtering, and atomic in-memory stock reservation timers to eliminate database deadlocks and sustain flash-sale traffic spikes.
We decoupled catalogue queries from the primary transactional database by implementing a dedicated search and facet index. An interactive hardware compatibility engine was deployed to validate component pairings in real time before checkout. In-memory atomic counters (Redis DECR) were implemented to manage temporary stock reservations during checkout, ensuring inventory reconciliation remained 100% consistent across warehouse hubs.
Complex SQL JOIN queries across variant matrices causing 100% database CPU; solved by offloading catalogue lookups to dedicated search indexes with background synchronization.
40% reduction in checkout drop-off rates; sub-30ms search response times across 500k+ SKUs; zero database deadlocks during nationwide promotional campaigns.
